We have long been told by dentists that fluoride helps strengthen our teeth and promote mental health. However, what they don’t know is that fluoride can cause numerous health problems. From something as simple as discoloured teeth to serious birth defects, numerous studies have proven that fluoride can cause severe problems. Fluoride is a highly toxic substance. It is more toxic than lead, but slightly less toxic than arsenic. 

While water is pretty difficult to avoid, fluoride-free toothpastes are much easier to find. It is important to minimize our exposure to fluoride so that we and our children do not accidentally ingest too much fluoride. Always remember to read labels and ingredients to pick the best toothpaste.

Are B Vitamins Important?

One vitamin you should seriously consider stocking up on is Vitamin B. Vitamin B is the one vitamin that has a very big impact on the amount of energy you have and the rate of speed of your metabolism. Of course, Vitamin B is subdivided into smaller categories – Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7 and B12 and Folic acid. Some B vitamins help cells burn fats and glucose for energy. Others help make neurotransmitters like serotonin. And some B's assist with the production and repair of DNA.

You can get B vitamins from proteins such as fish, poultry, meat, eggs, and dairy products. Leafy green vegetables, beans, and peas also have B vitamins. Many cereals and some breads have added B vitamins. However, many of us don't get enough B's; according to the USDA, deficiencies in Folic acid, B12, and B6 are especially common.

Ensuring that your diet contains plenty of B-rich foods –dark-green vegetables, protein from animal sources, and whole grains– is critical. If your stress level is high or if your diet is low in B's, you'll benefit from the higher amounts found in supplements.

Supplements for Strong Bones

Calcium and vitamin D are important nutrients for healthy bones. Calcium helps build bone mass and slow bone loss; vitamin D helps the body properly absorb calcium. You can get both these critical nutrients through daily supplements: women should aim for 500 to 700 mg per day of calcium from supplements and 2,000 IU of vitamin D; men should limit their calcium intake to 500 to 600 mg from all sources and aim for 2,000 IU of vitamin D.
